FOOD AND DRINK
All the time on the coach ride from the place where dark dreams became reality, Elkintra Rilyn Duskryn has been trying to attune his mind to the emptiness and tranquility needed to attain the meditative state that allows both reverie and replenishment of arcane power. But the ride has been too harsh for this, so in his mind he has strayed to other things.
Some thoughts drift into the horrid recent past. Those nasty bright lights he knew to be Harbinger Archons, the dark swirling misty nebulous world of the Dreamscape, where he felt so unsure of himself. But more than this, his mind wanders in to the good things about life – the things he doesn’t seem to have at the moment – comfort, good solid rest, good cheer, warm food, oh, how he could murder a packlizard steak right now.
So, after many hours, stumbling “Zombie-like” out of the carriage at Midergard, Dusk prepares himself for a good “tucking in” but the smell of roast hog and the bubbliness of the atmosphere in the tavern is almost as a drug to his wretched soul. How long has it been since he has been able to sit in a warm place and converse freely with friends, to feel the warmth of a fire, and the glow of people enjoying themselves? It has been many weeks, and now, as Elkintra experiences it once again, a little spark in his soul is rekindled.
He looks around at his companions, and even though they are relatively new, he begins to almost grasp the surface world concept he has learned so much about – camaraderie, trust, friendship. Of course, these concepts seem even easier to understand with the gentle warmth of a pale fire, the tangy fruitiness of frothy ale and the rich satisfaction of hot flavoured meat!
Ah, but maybe they ARE just concepts. The most important thing now is meditative reverie. The sweet surrender that will sustain his strength and replenish his power.
